patterns has a string of releases lined up of pure quality funky techno and next in this line up is no other than josh love! josh has been doing great work lately solo and with his partner mat303 recently on labels like: kazoo, relatives, techhead & subcult to name just a few. he also has a release upcoming with great response on the patterns sublabel special series. now its time for a solo ep on patterns. the ep is in true patterns style. the a1 starts of with a synth driven funky techno track. the rest is funky techno like it should be. nice samplework, big beats filled with heavy percussion and basslines. all in all a great debut ep from this french producer.

john tejada was marooned in los angeles in the summer of 82. a strange place to grow up coming from vienna austria. even stranger considering the lack of techno there in the 90s. in a land of glowsticks and desert parties, tejada stuck to his love and development of his own unique electronic sound. fast forward to 2007 when detroit area native josh humphrey was also marooned in los angeles. it didnt take long for the two to meet and connect the cables on their modulars into a system twice as big. the result is marooned, palettes newest collaboration between john tejada and josh humphrey. the trio of songs reveal three sides to the duos work. the title track, marooned, joins humphreys modular synth work with tejadas beats and soothing pads, the result being a slice of beat-driven melodic techno created in a city where such sounds are rarely heard. melodiac continues from there with a lighter mood, with humphreys modular melodies and tejadas signature stabs and rhythms. rounding out the three is concrete safari, which largely focuses on humphreys modular fm synth work that slowly evolves into a cluster of tribal sounds, modular birds and grainy goodness. humphreys knowledge of synths and programming is quite extensive. he currently works with la based big city music, a dealer of modular and boutique synthesizers. it is also a place tejada frequents to test most of his gear

belgian producers sierra sam & marcus vector return to their house-oriented project d.i.y. (dumb irresponsible youth) for three more sly, sexy groovers, with contributions from dop, big bully and markus fix.
while sam and marcus are generally known for their more techno-focused productions, last years house tools vol. 1 was a minor hit, with tracks included in ellen alliens resident advisor podcast, jay hazes recent fabric47 mix cd, and m.a.n.d.y.s charts. since then, they ve kept busy with their own toys for boys label, meanwhile sierra sam has co-produced the debut album by bloody mary on contexterrior.
still, they ve found the time to crank out these new elegant-yet-sleazy cuts, and while vol. 1 was purely instrumental, for vol. 2 they ve roped in some guest vocalists. first up is their collab with comrades dop (circus company, eklo, supplement facts). >kilimanjaro< features d.i.y.s tribal bounce combined with dops seedy, trent reznor-on-opiates vocal delivery.
the flipside has two versions of >suck my caulk<: d.i.y.s original elevates thelevel of melody and sunshine, weaving in the voice of big bully (known forhis work on spectral, get physical and vakant). markus fix of cecille offers his own interpretation, bringing the track down into deep house territory. placed in the right hands, these tools can do some serious dancefloor damage!

after martin landskys last bomb on poker flat, man high, he comes back faithfully with we are streaking, a tasty two-tracker rich in classic landsky synth-work, deep moody melodies and forward pushing energies throughout. title track we are streaking sends a warm pulsing sonic charge right to the core. rushing, phasing and casually dramatic, an insistent synth theme revolves at the heart of this timeless slice of driving electronic house. characterised by landskys experienced produciton hands at the controls, its a slow tweaking, extended cut that will take you back whilst keeping your body very much in the here and now. the sharp post-electro swagger of personal decay punches in time to the heartbeat of a generation. taking inspiration from those adrenal, early days of rave, landsky combines modern, fi nely tuned electronics with raw, dubbed and funked passages of killer proportions. once again a perfect driver, in classic style martin shows off all angles of his love for the beat.

lets have fun! - thats the mantra of big zis and the crew of nation music. the swiss black music label has been broadening its musical spectrum over the past years. just like the artist big zis, whose music could most likely be labeled electro pop alternative punk rap, they dont care about common conventions.while rap becomes more and more pimped out, house loopier and minimal narrow-minded, big zis hooks up with a top-class troupe to get it her own way.for her most recent album und jetz … (and now …) she worked with marton di katz and valentino tomasi (both members of kalabreses famous rumpelorchester), who laid the musical foundations for most of the songs. for the impulsive electro on the track suure räge (acid rain) however, big zis collaborated with the techno producer michal ho (tuningspork) at the studio. suure räge got remixed by several well-known producers: robag wruhme (freude am tanzen) and canson (gs zürich) are to be found on volume 1 and the soul brothers lexx (aka kawabata / drumpoet) and kalabrese (stattmusik) successfully combat boredom on volume 2. the sound scapes of the remixes couldnt be any more diverse and cover a broad variety of styles. and be sure: volume 3 - work in progress - will delight you as well!

the title of max coopers stochastisch serie ep, refers to his use of stochastic methods, also known as non-deterministic, or random methods of sound generation. stochastic elements referring here mainly to real sounds including vocal experiments and sampled sounds which create a complexity and richness which has been a trademark of many well known traum releases in the past. the london based artist max cooper sees his new 12 inch as a construction of different moods going beyond club music, as witnessed in the past through tracks such as i and end of reason. it is no surprise that dischordance is another one of these timeless pearls alongside these mentioned tracks that have created a fan base worldwide for him. the friction max generates is created by two sides colliding, the synthesised drums and melodies and the random experiments with voice. his dance floor rockers stochastisch serie and mnemonic work in a much more functional way but do include bits of this randomness and therefore are part of the superstructure stochastisch serie. the remix of uk producer leeks is very hip in style and sound and will please a lot of younger djs who love the cool swing and groovyness with music and will find the functionlism here going very strong.

a 12inch ep called here we come is filled with funky, groove and latin techno ryhmes from well known and respected artists in today s techno scene. a side contains american express techno machine bryant baker cooperating with croatian dj and producer miche. their track just deserves to be on the pole position spot a1. funky, groove and unique are just 3 words describing their work as a team. a2 spot represented by upcoming spanish star rantan.
da ghetto party is one track among the others which is really special and exclusively done for >beat forming< this lp. nice and smooth, groove and driving techno.
b side has been reserved for a latino dancefloor kicker done by josh love. the track is called sexiest rasta. jamaican rasta voice, nice groove beat and overrated control over everything. josh did a good work by making this happen. great track to jump on!
the last but not the least is a track done by kai aka vortechtral on b2. nice, smooth, groove and melodic techno track to dance on. great one for filling the 3rd deck with >the badman< voice thru the track.

greg schappert aka donor (brooklyn, ny) and tom russell aka truss (london, uk) first came into contact sometime towards the end of 2006. it didnt take long to realize that they had an immediate understanding of one anothers musical background and desired direction. finding that connection has resulted in the two continuing to work together on many joint projects, varying their style between more deep and hypnotic minimal techno to the more driving industrial style techno that they both grew up listening to.

russells contribution to the modern music scene is of such imortance that many consider his work to be untouchable but in this release all of the modern day producers have carefully picked out key elements of his songs whilst recording an entirely new and up to date soundtrack. over the last few months yam who?, robin & simon lee from faze action, singer mary moore, nycs pocketknife and my tiger my timing, andy spence from new young pony club have worked hard to create entirely new instruments and vocals. additional remix comes from mark e. especially fantastic cover version of >in the light of a miracle< by faze action ft. yam who and mary moore. features sleeve notes by danny krivit. heavy weight release.

donovan is a french parisian duo consisting of david saïd and nicolas nekmouche, formed in 2007. influenced by black music, french touch and techno as much as contemporary artists, donovan created an original sound, melodic and also very club, with tracks like >breakin, released on work it baby, a track featuring jessica rizzo released on gigolo records etc. so combining their respective influences, they obtain tracks full of energy and depth. the band hits the bulls eye and remixes requests start to pour in. among them two tracks of sebastien tellier for record makers, teenage bad girl, arnaud rebotini and several rock bands. dont pass on this one !

nice price deal !!! following up on her unanimously acclaimed debut album may be later (vakant), chilean artist and berlin transplant alejandra iglesias conceived anemik entirely for the wagon repair label after being approached by label head mathew jonson. a musing on femininity and the fine line between romance and delirium, anemik transcends borders in its range of influence and reflects consciousness in the fluidity and tangibly live origins of its creation. recorded using analog equipment and acoustic instruments with a strong emphasis on voice, there is a wisdom and maturity to this work that suggests an artist in the prime of her life.

with the help of bodie lee and his nuboogie series project we managed to lay our hands on the master tapes of this early 80s disco hit by beggar & co. (and with hit we mean hit... like top 10 positions uk and us etc). we already got some raving reactions from people who use to love this big brit funk tune back in the days... and this might even sound better! nice remix challenge for greg wilson and elitechnique... both delivered the works! we could write a long story about the remixes and the remixers... but just choose your favorite. 2 sublime nu disco funk work outs!

welcome to west africa and the port city of ouidah, home of the quenum clan. this track is classic quenum, clear-headed techno influenced by african rhythm, hypnotic percussions and inimitable touches that add warmth to the sober mix. this one is for the head, but without letting go of the hips.

the tracks on this new 12 inch build on the momenetum, with two tracks of stripped down dancefloor killers - >yeah!< is a monster builder, all todd edwards style swing and tight edits with crazy deep kicks, chopped up vocals, old school piano stabs, soaring strings, and hands in the air breakdowns. already being played out by drop the lime (check his latest exclusive mix for fact magazine where he opens his set with >yeah!<). >head work< on the b side is on more of a masters at work/harddrive era tip - deep garage beats tripping over themselves, burbling oddity synths, shuffling snares and the weirdest vocal melody breakdown/build-up ever!
the originals are complimented on the 12 inch by two remixes - tvo takes yeah! to another dimension altogther with a head destroying 140bpm hardcore junglist remix. on the flip, san franciscos eats tapes take >head work< into the wonkiest area of minimalist techno, showcasing their totally unique take on future groove.

the voyeurhythm crew from london is doing their first record! ben sun, megadon betamax and hollywood nites deliver some shit hot slo-mo house and disco tracks that go somewhere ugly edits and mark e. crazy stuff that work very well. total killer is the b side cut by ben sun that covers the whole side. a incredible funky and rocking disco funk tune with crunchy 12-bit beats and a soul vocal give way to joyful swinging keys and a driving deep-disco groove. this sounds like one of the best kdj releases! recommended.

straight off the heels of his highly successful bird brain album teaser tracks, aundy and beat that bird comes the definitive claude vonstroke record everyone has been waiting for. the a side is classic genius cvs at work. he constructs a mad vocal pattern up and down through 4 octaves and all the vowel sounds of the live human voice. then he creates a chord out of the notes all coming together for en even bigger surprise in the 2nd half. this track is quite simply unique. there is nothing else like it. the b-side resembles the freaky side of cvs harking back to the tech funk sound of tracks like chimps. this time claude makes an ultra-wide filter sweep sound like a pair of humongous tits bouncing up and down on a trampoline. the boob jokes are there but the track is so filthy dirty its hard to even find time to chuckle.

professor genius from italians do it better fame (in real life jorge velez) and speculator also known as grackle, galaxy toobin, one half of smackulator or just william burnett... and they are now pg&s. pg&s has paired up to create some very personal tracks... there are three collaborations and 2 solo tracks of both. going somewhere between trippy kraut rock to more psychedelic disco. our favorite is the powerful introvert kraut disco work out called jive. limited release on the new label from greece!

spectrum recordings returns after the summer months with a fantastic deep dark two tracker to take us into those shorter nights of the year from italian duo ascion & davide carbone. the a side >shaved< is a stripped down dubby groover, with eerie vocal stabs and spacey edits. this has a seriously tripped out vibe, which is perfect for the after hours, but still with more then enough punch to work at peak time, with some layered percussion or effects. the flip side >spectral town< is a minimal funky track, superbly produced and once again perfect for the after hours. a very cool and classy record from a label stamping its mark on the scene, and still only in its first year of releasing music. look out for future releases from ramon tapia, gui boratto and alan fitzpatrick. big things to come!

manel ruiz aka sistema and javier orduna aka retronouveau started work together in 2008. they found deeps edayar to put together their passion of dub, detroit techno, idm, chicago sounds. this year is one of the duos most successful in upcoming productions in labels like overflow records, neue lärmklassiker and phonobox. in this release bring us 2 tracks, >ready to june< and a remix from the original. a tight compressed kick and atmospheric touch of dubby techno,is more of a pure techno track with an old school feeling to it. deeps edayar totally builds it to another level with sublime melodies and a additional bouncing bassline. they represent the modern soul of detroit with raw grooves and understated textures.

claire ripley, the london based producer and head of her new phobic records imprint sends over some lovely extended and hypnotic vibes with this magnifi cent four tracker, backed up by a classy remix by gorge of 8bit and cecille fame. just the right medicine as summer draws to a close! written and produced by herself, & engineered by justin drake, the ep captures all the excitement & promise that a new artist like claire exudes, plus the added bonus of having one half of peace division working the mix. nice! title track labyrinth introduces us into claires world with long, drifting arrangements full of tension and cooly placed melodic sentiments. deeply tuned, chunky drums work the floor while only a handful of carefully selected elements sing their tune. flirting between sunrise synth-lines and tingling atmospheric moments its a haunting adventure into modern hypno-house. gorges remix of >labyrinth< lifts the energy a notch with his trademark rolling drums and pushing energy from the very start. using the main hooks with discretion this 8 minute drum workout is a tough, addictive and essential club tool.

phil kieran has been in the upper echelons of the electronic music game for more than a decade, but is only now releasing his debut album under his own name. known for rocking clubs and releasing a string of killer twelves, belfast-based phil has hooked up with german powerhouse cocoon in recent times. sven väths label is now about to release shh, a groundbreaking piece of work that will undoubtedly gain phil plaudits across the board. shh seems to not only reference every sound phil has ever loved in music, but is formulated in a completely fresh and futuristic way. listen carefully and you can detect elements of dub reggae, old hardcore like lfo, hip-hop, early 90s electronica such as autechre/black dog and other warp staples, as well as the futuristic techno that phil excels in. for the album phil went back to old sound lab recordings dating back to the 1950s and 60s. utilising some of these sounds in the initial construction, he built up tracks using a combination of old samples sourced from original and weird places and some live new instrumentation as well. there are live drums, some electric / acoustic/ bass guitar and live keyboard playing as well as some choice guest vocalists.

next month we celebrate our 5th anniversary here at dirt crew and we are very pleased to have marc romboy - whos systematic imprint also turned 5 this year - team up with smokin jo to deliver this marvellous two tracker. >what is this?< is a strong tech-house gem, slowly building, pumping groove and with a great sax sample. very recognisable and been doing a really good job on the dancefloors in our sets over the last few months. solid stuff ! as a b-side there is a much deeper and musically more diverse lee jones remix, lee has been one of our favourite producers in the last years with his solo work on labels like aus, liebe * detail and especially his my my project on playhouse, we are very pleased to have him on our label for the very first time with this excellent re-interpretation of >what is this?<

wheres joe is a deep minimal house track with great production work and a very special atmosphere. the b side is a rework version by great italian duo minimono, keeping the deep original vibe alive but adding a stronger groove perfect for the dancefloor!!

ultimately affected by this summer, remain records 007: cool water e.p. by axel karakasis aims at keeping the vibes high for the new season. this year has been exceptionally good for axel and remain records, so this release is more of a celebration signalling the third year of the label, which grows stronger by the day!this 3 track e.p. opens up with orisha on the main side, a spot on tune with a straight kick and minimal techno elements that gradually build up to embrace the main character sample. at its peak, the track makes an inspired transition into funky, laidback groove, where axel works mostly present day sounds with 90s intelligence! the second track on the side is a far cry from orisha, as let it roll does exactly that: it rolls! bassheavy throughout, it s an insane piece of work with smart cuts that give way to teasing loopy layers. this track is a burner for serious techno players!the title track on the remain side begins as a mishmash of dub groove, and a rolling bassline. midway, cool water has an extended cut that builds up with relentless sirens and its menacing bassline that seem endless. in a word: flawless!

i ve been playing ortins track at big gigs for quite a while at peak times, with the advent & industrialyzer interpreting it its great to release these two fine pieces of work that have purpose and conviction says luke slater about the next release on his mote evolver label. the boundary pushing mind set slater brings to his own planetary assault systems creations is a key characteristic of the music he selects for mote evolver. this release from ortin cam is a prime example.
